Introduction to the function of commutator on DC motor

Update:23 Sep 2020

The effect of commutator on DC motor:

1. Components: Each group of windings has at least one pair of contact pieces. If it is a multi-winding motor, it is also possible for multiple windings to share one contact piece. There are contact pieces and windings connected, and then there are carbon brushes on top.

2. The carbon brush does not move due to the continuous movement of the rotor, so when a certain group of coils of the rotor is now connected to the carbon brush to form a loop, because there is a magnetic field around the energized conductor, then it will turn, and this group will be powered off after rotation Then the next group will be energized so that it can continue to operate.

3. If it is not installed, then the direction cannot be reversed, then the current always flows through a winding, and after the winding reaches the zero-crossing position (that is the position of the magnetic field), it will not turn anymore. Do not move. At this time, the power is always on, and the rotor will be burnt due to the small resistance.

4. As mentioned in 2, the rotor rotates, the carbon brush does not move, and each time a pair of contact pieces touches is different, and then keeps it to continue to rotate, and at the same time, a group of windings is energized, and the other The group can be energized in reverse to obtain high efficiency and power output.
