How to install and maintain the commutator

Update:21 Jul 2020

After long-term operation of the DC motor, due to poor commutation, unreasonable brush arrangement and improper brush material, streaks, regular burns, pitting on the surface, and uneven wear on the surface of the commutator will often form axial For waviness, a special grinding stone is generally required to polish the commutator. During use, the grinding stone needs to be glued to the bottom of the grinding tool with the handle. The speed of the commutator should be about 10m/s during grinding. Use both hands to stably press the sand on the commutator. The hand-held pressure should not be too high, and it should be polished until the burn marks and grooves on the surface cannot be seen. After the grindstone is polished, place a fine-grain emery cloth around the wood block, and use the same method to polish it again. For the highly demanding commutators, canvas is also used instead of fine emery cloth, and then polished again. Do not use emery cloth to polish the commutator, because the emery particles embedded in the surface of the commutator can scratch the surface of the commutator and the brush, causing the surface to form fine grooves and affecting the formation of oxide film. When the surface of the commutator is severely burned, polishing the commutator will not be able to improve the surface condition of the commutator, and the surface of the commutator should be turned.

Around us, the use of various machines is becoming more and more popular. These machines play an important role in many production fields. Among them, the commutator is what we need to use in many products. As our production needs, There are also more types of commutators around us. Rare earth motor commutators are the most common commutators around us. When we use these commutators, how do we need to install and maintain them? Next, please Let's take a good look at the relevant knowledge of the use of these commutators.

The installation position of the commutator can only be selected on some support structures that are relatively stable, less vibration, and have good torsion resistance. No matter what the situation is, it is not allowed to knock the hammer on each output shaft of the commutator. After the commutator is installed, it needs to be checked for flexibility. Before it is officially put into production and use, it needs to be idling for 3 to 5 minutes, and it can be put into production under normal conditions. The forklift motor commutator must not be overloaded during use. In daily use and maintenance work, the oil level inspection of the equipment is indispensable. If the oil level is abnormal, it must be dealt with immediately. The surface of the commutator should be kept clean and free of mechanical damage and spark burns. If there is a slight burn, use No. 0 sandpaper to carefully grind the surface of the commutator rotating at a low speed. If the surface of the commutator is severely burnt or rough, the surface is not round, or there are local bumps, etc., it should be removed and turned again. Finally, the entire armature surface is blown clean with compressed air, and then assembled.
